Schedule social media from Codex.A week of posts, one task.
Run codex mcp add and sign in in your browser, and OpenAI's Codex can schedule posts on Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube and 10 more networks, fill your next free slots, answer comments and DMs and read your analytics. The same entry in ~/.codex/config.toml works in the Codex CLI, the IDE extension and the desktop app.
Codex opens your browser to sign in. If it doesn't, run codex mcp login breakreach.
Checked against Codex's docs on October 7, 2026. Breakreach is our product.
Add Breakreach to CodexOne entry, read by the CLI, the IDE extension and the app.
Sign in with OAuth
RecommendedNothing to copy but the command. Codex registers itself with Breakreach, opens your browser to sign in, and keeps the token fresh.
- 1Add the server
From a terminal. It writes the entry to
~/.codex/config.toml, then opens your browser: allow access there and Codex finishes the sign-in. Access tokens last 30 days and refresh on their own. - 2Or edit config.toml, then sign in
The same two lines by hand, then
codex mcp login breakreach. A repo can carry its own.codex/config.toml, which Codex reads once you trust the project. Over SSH, add--no-browser: Codex prints the address to open and asks for the one the browser ends on. - 3In the IDE extension or the app
They read the same
config.toml. If breakreach still needs a sign-in there, choose Authenticate in their MCP settings. - 4Connect your social accounts
Connect Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and the rest once in Breakreach (Settings, Accounts). Or ask the agent for a link:
create_connect_linkreturns a page where you, or a client, connect accounts without a Breakreach login.
Use an API key
For codex exec in CI, or a machine where nobody can click through a browser sign-in. Codex reads the key from an environment variable and sends it as a bearer token; the config never holds the key itself.
- 1Create an API key
In Breakreach, open Settings, API & MCP and create a key. It starts with
br_and reaches every workspace you're a member of. Keep it out of files you commit. - 2Put the key in your environment
Add
export BREAKREACH_API_KEY=br_…to your shell profile, so every Codex session (andcodex execin a script) finds it. - 3Add the server with the key
From a terminal, or as three lines in
config.toml. - 4Or edit config.toml
A repo can carry its own
.codex/config.toml, which Codex reads once you trust the project.
Check it works. codex mcp list shows breakreach, and /mcp in a Codex session lists its 29 tools.

Why schedule from Codex? It finishes the whole task.
Codex is good at jobs with many small steps: read a file, do the same thing ten times, check each result, report back. A week of social posts is exactly that. Keep the plan in the repo, a markdown or CSV file with the text, the image URL and the networks per post, and Codex turns it into scheduled posts, one create_post per line, then lists what it did.
- A content calendar in the repoEdit the file in a pull request, merge it, ask Codex to schedule it. The history of what went out is in git.
- Your posting schedule, filled
useNextSlotputs each post in the next free slot of your schedule (weekdays at 11:00 and 16:00 until you change it), so ten posts become two weeks of posting. - Reports as files“Top 10 posts of last month as a CSV” calls the analytics tools and writes the file.
- Moving things around“Move Saturday's posts to Monday” reads the queue and reschedules each one with
update_post.
Can I run it from a script with codex exec?Yes, it reads the same config.
codex exec runs one task without the interactive session, with the same config.toml and the same sign-in. On a CI runner, where nobody can sign in, use the API key setup and set BREAKREACH_API_KEY in the job's environment (a CI secret). Scheduled posts publish from Breakreach's servers, so the job can end once Codex has made the calls.
For anything that runs unattended, ask for drafts (“save them as drafts”) and approve them in Breakreach, or limit the job to posting to accounts you're sure of.
Can Codex post images from my machine?
Through a public URL. The server downloads media from the web, so give Codex the URL of the image on your site, a CDN or a bucket, and it can call upload_media to keep a copy on Breakreach's storage for scheduled posts. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest need a photo or a video; the other eight networks also take text alone.
What does it cost?
Creating a Breakreach account and connecting your first social account is free. Scheduling and publishing need a plan, from $29 a month ($23 billed yearly) for 5 accounts, or the Developer plan at $5 per connected account. Signed in with OAuth before you subscribe, the reading tools work and the publishing ones answer with a link to the plans. An API key needs an active plan or trial, and answers 402 otherwise. Codex's own plan is separate.
Troubleshooting Breakreach in Codex
- breakreach doesn't start, or answers 401Signed in with OAuth, run
codex mcp login breakreachagain. With an API key,BREAKREACH_API_KEYisn't set in the environment Codex runs in: export it in your shell profile and start a new session. - The browser doesn't open (SSH, a remote machine)Run
codex mcp login breakreach --no-browser, open the address it prints on any machine, and paste back the address the browser ends on. - 402: API access requires an active subscriptionAPI keys need a plan or a trial on the Breakreach account.
- “No free slot found in the next 14 days”Your posting schedule is full or empty. Add slots in Breakreach (Settings, Schedule), or give times instead.
- “No social accounts connected yet”Connect them in Breakreach, or ask Codex for a connect link.
- “Media is required for: tiktok”Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest need an image or video URL.

Short answers about Breakreach in Codex.
Yes. Run codex mcp add breakreach --url https://api.breakreach.com/mcp and sign in in the browser, and Codex gets 29 tools to post, schedule, answer comments and DMs and read analytics on 15 networks.
Yes. The CLI, the IDE extension and the desktop app read the same config.toml, so one entry covers all three.
Yes. Ask it to schedule a file of posts: it calls create_post once per post, at the times you give or in the next free slots of your posting schedule.
No. Codex signs in with OAuth: codex mcp add opens the sign-in, and codex mcp login breakreach runs it again. An API key through bearer_token_env_var suits CI jobs and machines without a browser.
Same server and same tools. In ChatGPT's chat, add the plugin from the directory; in Codex, add the server to config.toml.
