Prices checked on each vendor's pricing page on October 6, 2026, before tax. Hootsuite's Standard plan stops at 10 accounts, so 25 or 50 accounts mean Professional, priced per user. Breakreach's Agency plan is billed monthly only. Metricool counts brands, not accounts (we assume 3 to 5 accounts per brand), puts team roles on Advanced and charges $10 a month per X account on top. Why people leave HootsuiteAnd where each reason points.

Every seat costs $99 a month

Hootsuite prices per user, billed yearly, and Standard stops at 10 social accounts. Three people running 25 accounts need Professional: $597 a month.

Where to go: Buffer Team charges per channel with unlimited members ($150 a month for 25 channels, billed yearly). Breakreach Agency covers 50 accounts and unlimited members for $69 a month. Metricool Advanced counts brands: $53 a month billed yearly for 15.

Approvals cost $399 per user

Approval workflows start at Advanced. If one person writes and another signs off, that's two Advanced seats, $798 a month.

Where to go: Buffer Team has approval workflows from $10 per channel billed yearly. Metricool Advanced has a post approval system from $53. Later Growth has approvals from $37.50, for up to 2 users. Breakreach has no approvals.

You only use the calendar

If the inbox, listening and reports go unused, you're paying a suite's price to schedule posts.

Where to go: Buffer Essentials ($5 per channel billed yearly), Breakreach Starter ($23 billed yearly for 5 accounts) or Postiz ($23 for 5 channels, $39 for 30).

You want an assistant to do the posting

Hootsuite runs four MCP servers: Perch for publishing, Nest for the inbox, Lumen for listening and Parliament for advocacy. When we checked, none was in Claude's or ChatGPT's directory: you add each by URL, and in ChatGPT that means developer mode and a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace for write actions.

Where to go: Breakreach, Metricool and Postiz are in both directories, so you connect with a sign-in. Breakreach's connector also answers comments and DMs.

When to stay on Hootsuite

Listening, a shared inbox for a large team, approval chains and enterprise governance are what Hootsuite is built for. If those are requirements, compare it with Sprout Social rather than with the tools on this page.

BufferThe closest swap for a small team

Best for
Small teams on a few channels who want a free start and simple approvals
Pricing
Free (3 channels, 10 scheduled posts each); Essentials $6 per channel a month or $5 billed yearly, $4 from the 11th channel; Team $12 or $10 billed yearly (unlimited members, approvals); 14-day trial
Networks
12: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Bluesky, Mastodon, Substack

buffer.com
Buffer website, September 2026

Buffer covers the part of Hootsuite most small teams use: a queue per channel, a calendar, analytics and a community inbox. Team adds unlimited members and approval workflows for $10 per channel a month billed yearly, so 3 people on 25 channels pay $150 instead of $597. The free plan (3 channels, 10 scheduled posts each) lets you try it first.

What you give up is listening and an assistant that answers comments. Buffer's MCP server publishes and reads metrics but has no comment or DM tools, and in ChatGPT it needs developer mode.

Good for

  • A real free plan, with an API key and Buffer's MCP server
  • Approvals and unlimited team members on Team, from $10 per channel billed yearly
  • The cleanest product at 1 to 3 channels

Watch out for

  • The bill grows with every channel: 25 channels cost $100 a month billed yearly
  • Not in ChatGPT's Plugins directory: ChatGPT needs developer mode
  • Its MCP server has no comment or DM tools
#2

MetricoolThe swap if reports are what you'd miss

Best for
Marketers whose first question is what worked
Pricing
Free (1 brand, 20 posts a month, no LinkedIn or X); Starter $20 a month billed yearly for 5 brands, $36 for 10 ($25 and $45 monthly); Advanced from $53 billed yearly (15 brands, approvals, team roles, API); X add-on $10 a month per account
Networks
11: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest, LinkedIn (paid plans), Google Business Profile, Twitch, X (paid add-on)
metricool.com
metricool.com
Metricool website, September 2026

Metricool is the closest match for Hootsuite's analytics: unlimited history from Starter, up to 100 competitors, PDF and PPT reports, plus ads reporting. It bills per brand, so 15 brands with team roles and approvals cost $53 a month billed yearly on Advanced.

Watch two costs. X is a $10 add-on per account a month, and the API starts at Advanced. Its connector, in both assistants' directories, answers analytics questions but doesn't handle comments or DMs.

Good for

  • Priced per brand, not per account
  • Analytics at the core: unlimited history from Starter, up to 100 competitors, PDF and PPT reports
  • Connectors in Claude's and ChatGPT's directories, on the free plan too

Watch out for

  • X costs $10 a month per account on any paid plan
  • Approvals, team roles and the API start at Advanced
  • Its MCP server doesn't handle comments or DMs

BreakreachThe swap if an assistant does the work

Best for
Small teams and agencies that want an AI assistant to plan, publish and answer comments
Pricing
Starter $29 a month or $23 billed yearly (5 accounts, 1 member); Pro $49 or $39 billed yearly (15 accounts, 3 members); Agency $69 a month for 50 accounts, then $2 per account, unlimited members (billed monthly). No free plan
Networks
12: Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn (personal profiles), YouTube, X, Facebook (Pages), Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Reddit, Telegram, Discord

Breakreach website, September 2026

Breakreach is built to be run from Claude or ChatGPT: its connector is in both directories and covers publishing, analytics, comment replies and DMs on 12 networks. Pro covers 15 accounts and 3 members for $39 a month billed yearly. Agency covers 50 accounts with unlimited members for $69 a month, then $2 per account, and clients can connect their own accounts from a link.

It's the wrong pick if you need approvals or listening: it has neither. It also posts to LinkedIn personal profiles only, not Company Pages. Breakreach is our product, so weigh this block accordingly.

Good for

  • Runs from Claude or ChatGPT: in both directories, with posts, analytics, comment replies and DMs
  • Reddit, Telegram and Discord next to the usual networks; Instagram carousels, TikTok photo posts, multi-photo Facebook posts
  • REST API and MCP server on every plan

Watch out for

  • No free plan: the account is free, scheduling needs a plan
  • No approval workflows and no social listening
  • No LinkedIn Company Pages, no X threads
#4

LaterThe swap for a visual planner

Best for
Instagram- and TikTok-first brands that plan by how the grid looks
Pricing
Starter $25 a month or $18.75 billed yearly (1 social set of 8 profiles, 30 posts per profile a month, 1 user); Growth $50 or $37.50 (2 sets, approvals, inbox, 2 users); Scale $110 or $82.50 (6 sets, 4 users); extra set $11.25, extra user $3.75; 14-day trial
Networks
8: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Snapchat (no X or Bluesky)
later.com
later.com
Later website, September 2026

Later suits brands that live on Instagram and TikTok and plan by how the grid looks, with link in bio included. Growth ($37.50 a month billed yearly) adds approvals, an inbox and a second user.

It doesn't post to X or Bluesky, Starter caps each profile at 30 posts a month, and it has no official connector for Claude or ChatGPT.

Good for

  • Visual planning for Instagram and TikTok, with link in bio
  • Approvals and an inbox from Growth ($37.50 billed yearly)
  • Priced per social set, so one brand on many networks stays cheap

Watch out for

  • No X or Bluesky
  • Starter caps each profile at 30 posts a month
  • No official connector for Claude or ChatGPT

Postiz website, September 2026

Postiz cloud is the cheapest hosted plan with an API once you pass 10 accounts: 30 channels for $39 a month billed yearly, team members included. Its MCP server is in both assistants' directories, and the code is open source if you'd rather run it yourself.

Its MCP server doesn't read or answer comments, and self-hosting means getting your own developer app approved on every network before the first post.

  • The cheapest hosted plans with an API past 10 accounts: 30 channels for $39 billed yearly
  • MCP server, API and CLI on every plan, in both assistants' directories
  • Open source: self-host it for the cost of a server

Watch out for

  • Its MCP server doesn't read or answer comments
  • Standard (5 channels) has no team members
  • Self-hosting means your own app review on every network

How to switch from HootsuiteWithout losing a scheduled post.

  1. 1List what's scheduledOpen Hootsuite's planner and note what's queued for the next two weeks. Let those posts go out from Hootsuite while new ones go into the new tool.
  2. 2Connect your accountsConnect each network in the new tool. In Breakreach, Instagram connects through Instagram's own login (Creator or Business account) and Facebook through your Pages. A client can connect their own accounts from a link you send.
  3. 3Recreate your posting timesSave your usual slots as a posting schedule, so every new post lands on the next free one.
  4. 4Move the posts that are leftCopy the queued posts over. With Breakreach, you can paste the list into Claude or ChatGPT and ask it to schedule each post at its time.
  5. 5Cancel once the queue is emptyKeep Hootsuite until its last scheduled post is out, export the reports you'll want later, then cancel or downgrade.
