Grok · MCP server

Post to social media from Grok. From the terminal or the xAI API.

Grok reaches Breakreach's MCP server two ways we've checked: Grok Build, xAI's coding agent, with grok mcp add, and the xAI API's remote MCP tool with your API key. Grok can then post and schedule on X, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and 10 more networks, answer comments and DMs, and read your numbers. Grok Bot and grok.com take the same URL as a custom connector.

Terminal (Grok Build)
grok mcp add --transport http \ breakreach https://api.breakreach.com/mcp

Then run /mcps in Grok Build and sign in to Breakreach. Using the xAI API instead? See the request below.

Checked against Grok's docs on October 7, 2026. Breakreach is our product.

In Grok Build

Recommended

Grok Build is xAI's open-source coding agent for the terminal. It signs in with OAuth, or sends an API key.

  1. 1
    Add the server

    It's saved in ~/.grok/config.toml under [mcp_servers.breakreach].

    Terminal
grok mcp add --transport http breakreach https://api.breakreach.com/mcp
  2. 2
    Sign in

In Grok Build, run /mcps, pick breakreach and sign in in the browser tab that opens.

  3. 3
    Or pass an API key

For a machine without a browser. The single quotes keep ${BREAKREACH_API_KEY} as written; Grok Build reads the variable each time it loads its config.

    Terminal
grok mcp add --transport http breakreach https://api.breakreach.com/mcp \ --header 'Authorization: Bearer ${BREAKREACH_API_KEY}'
  4. 4
    Connect your social accounts

Connect Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and the rest once in Breakreach (Settings, Accounts). Or ask the agent for a link: create_connect_link returns a page where you, or a client, connect accounts without a Breakreach login.

With the xAI API

Your code asks Grok, and Grok calls Breakreach's tools from xAI's servers during the request, with your Breakreach API key. There's no sign-in and no approval step, so list the tools it may use in allowed_tools.

  1. 1
    Create an API key

In Breakreach, open Settings, API & MCP and create a key. It starts with br_ and reaches every workspace you're a member of. Keep it out of files you commit.

  2. 2
    Send the request

authorization is the whole Authorization header, Bearer included. Without allowed_tools, Grok can call any of Breakreach's tools.

    POST /v1/responses
    curl https://api.x.ai/v1/responses \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $XAI_API_KEY" \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{ "model": "grok-4.7", "input": [{ "role": "user", "content": "Post our launch on X and Bluesky now" }], "tools": [{ "type": "mcp", "server_url": "https://api.breakreach.com/mcp", "server_label": "breakreach", "authorization": "Bearer br_YOUR_API_KEY", "allowed_tools": ["list_accounts", "create_post"] }] }'
  3. 3
    Or with xAI's Python SDK

The SDK calls the list allowed_tool_names. This one can only read: it lists accounts and reports numbers.

    report.py
    import osfrom xai_sdk import Clientfrom xai_sdk.chat import userfrom xai_sdk.tools import mcp client = Client(api_key=os.environ["XAI_API_KEY"])chat = client.chat.create(model="grok-4.7", tools=[mcp(    server_url="https://api.breakreach.com/mcp",    server_label="breakreach",    authorization="Bearer " + os.environ["BREAKREACH_API_KEY"],    allowed_tool_names=["list_accounts", "get_content_performance"],)])chat.append(user("How did last week's posts do?"))print(chat.sample().content)

In Grok Bot or on grok.com

Both add a remote MCP server by its URL and sign you in with OAuth. We haven't completed that sign-in from them ourselves yet, so we don't promise it: if it fails, Grok Build and the API are the routes we've checked.

  1. 1
    Grok Bot

Ask your Bot: “Add this MCP server: https://api.breakreach.com/mcp”, then sign in when it asks. On a team, the admin's list of allowed MCP servers must include it.

  2. 2
    grok.com

Open grok.com/connectors, choose New Connector, then Custom, paste the URL and complete the sign-in. On Grok Business, an admin adds the connector first in the xAI console.

Check it works. grok mcp doctor breakreach checks the connection from Grok Build, and /mcps lists its 29 tools. With the API, ask “list my connected social accounts” first.

Which Grok should I use?Three ways in, for three kinds of work.

xAI APIYour own code: a script, a job, a productYour Breakreach API keyNo, limit it with allowed_tools

Checked on October 7, 2026, against xAI's documentation and the Grok Build source.

Grok inside the X app doesn't take custom MCP servers: xAI documents connectors for grok.com and Grok Bot only.

Can Grok post to X for me?Yes, through Breakreach and X's official API.

Grok being X's assistant doesn't give it your account. Breakreach connects your X account through X's official API with your sign-in, and Grok calls Breakreach's tools: text with up to 4 images, a GIF or a video, at once or at a time. X threads and polls aren't supported yet. The same request can go to Bluesky, Threads, LinkedIn and the other 11 networks, each counting its own limit.

Replies to your X posts published through Breakreach come back with list_recent_comments, and X DMs with list_conversations, so Grok can answer both.

What should I know before using the xAI API?

  • It doesn't stop to askTool calls run on xAI's servers inside the request, with no approval step. Give each job only the tools it needs with allowed_tools, and ask for drafts (draft: true) when a person should check the post.
  • Your key travels with the requestxAI sends the Authorization value you pass to Breakreach. Keep it in an environment variable, never in code you commit.
  • Posts don't depend on the requestA scheduled post is held by Breakreach and goes out at its time, after your script and Grok's request are long gone.

Can Grok post images?

Through public URLs. Breakreach downloads media from the web, so give Grok the address of the image on your site, a CDN or a bucket; upload_media keeps a copy for scheduled posts. Images Grok generates need a public URL before they can be posted. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest need a photo or a video; the other networks also take text alone.

What does it cost?

Creating a Breakreach account and connecting your first social account is free. Scheduling and publishing need a plan, from $29 a month ($23 billed yearly) for 5 accounts, or the Developer plan at $5 per connected account. Signed in with OAuth before you subscribe, the reading tools work and the publishing ones answer with a link to the plans. An API key needs an active plan or trial, and answers 402 otherwise. Grok and the xAI API are billed by xAI.

Troubleshooting Breakreach in Grok

  • grok mcp doctor breakreach failsCheck the server was added with --transport http and the URL ends in /mcp, then sign in again with /mcps.
  • 401 from the xAI API callauthorization must be the full header value: Bearer br_…, with your Breakreach key, not your xAI key.
  • 402: API access requires an active subscriptionAPI keys need a plan or a trial on the Breakreach account.
  • The sign-in fails in Grok Bot or on grok.comUse Grok Build or the API, and write to hello@breakreach.com with what you saw: we'll make it work.
  • “Media is required for: instagram”Give an image or video URL Breakreach can download.
FAQ

Short answers about Breakreach in Grok.

Yes, through Grok Build (grok mcp add --transport http breakreach https://api.breakreach.com/mcp, then /mcps to sign in) and the xAI API's remote MCP tool with a Breakreach API key. Grok then gets 29 tools for 15 social networks.

Yes, through Breakreach, which posts with X's official API on the account you connected: text with up to 4 images, a GIF or a video. X threads and polls aren't supported yet.

Both add custom MCP servers by URL with OAuth, so Breakreach's URL goes in the same way. We haven't completed that sign-in from them ourselves yet; Grok Build and the xAI API are the routes we've checked.

No. Remote MCP tools run on xAI's servers without an approval step, so limit them with allowed_tools and ask for drafts when a person should check.

Not that we know of: xAI documents custom connectors for grok.com and Grok Bot, not for Grok inside the X app.
