The open-source ones sign in with your handle and an app password, which Bluesky supports for bots and scripts; some only read, others post text, photos or video. Breakreach's hosted connector signs in with Bluesky's OAuth instead, so there's no password to create or paste.

App passwords
Every open-source Bluesky server we reviewed signs in with your handle and an app password (a xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx code from Settings → Privacy and security). Bluesky supports it for bots and command-line tools, and an app password can't change your account or its sign-in settings. It's still a credential in a config file, and a DM-enabled one also reads your messages.
Readers and posters
laulauland/bluesky-context-server only reads. brianellin/bsky-mcp-server reads widely and posts text. gwbischof/bluesky-social-mcp and cameronrye/atproto-mcp post text, images and video, and cameronrye's adds threads, DMs and analytics.
OAuth, hosted
Bluesky's guidance is that apps with their own sign-in should use OAuth. Breakreach does: you authorize it on Bluesky's page from Claude's or ChatGPT's directory, and posts go out from our servers at the time you set.

Short answers about Bluesky MCP servers.
Not for accounts. The atproto site links a documentation assistant over MCP; it answers questions about the protocol and doesn't read or post to your account.
Safer than your main password: an app password can't change your account or its sign-in settings, and you can revoke it in Settings. It still posts as you. Breakreach uses OAuth instead, so there's no password to hand over.
Up to 10 per post since Bluesky's June 2026 update. Breakreach posts up to 10 and recompresses any over 2 MB.
