MCP servers

Dev.to MCP servers in 2026.No official one, and the open-source ones skip the AI label.

DEV Community has no official MCP server. The open-source ones run on your machine with a DEV API key; the most-starred, Arindam200/devto-mcp with 62 GitHub stars, hasn't changed since May 2025 and sends tags in a form Dev.to drops. None of the four that publish sends the AI disclosure DEV asks API clients for. Breakreach's hosted connector publishes and schedules articles with a cover, tags and that label, from Claude or ChatGPT.

How we log every roast of Morning Light with a Raspberry Pi

#python#raspberrypi

Eleven minutes from green bean to bag, and we used to time them with a phone. Now a Raspberry Pi reads two thermocouples every second and writes the curve to SQLite.

First crack shows up as a dip in the rate of rise. Twenty lines of Python flag it, and that's how we stop Morning Light early enough to keep its honey and orange notes.

Our recommendation

To post to Dev.to from an assistant, use Breakreach. We built it, so here's the case.

Connect Dev.to
  • It sends the AI label DEV asks for, set by you or the assistant, and tags in the array Dev.to keeps
  • Nothing to install or keep running: paste a DEV key once, and scheduled articles go out with the chat closed
  • The same request shares the article on X, LinkedIn, Bluesky and the rest, and views and reactions come back in the chat

When to pick something else. Breakreach only publishes under your own account, without organizations, series, edits after publishing or comments. Postiz posts as a DEV organization, and furkankoykiran/DevTo-MCP reads comments, followers and your reading list, so start there if that's the job.

The kinds of Dev.to MCP serverHow each one gets to your account.

Open source, with your API key

Arindam200/devto-mcp (62 stars in October 2026), furkankoykiran/DevTo-MCP and tiagovilasboas/dev-to-mcp run on your machine with the key from Settings, Extensions on dev.to. They read and write, and you keep them running. Read the code before you rely on the details: Arindam200's sends tags as one comma-separated string, which Dev.to drops without an error, and none of them sends ai_disclosure_level.

Read-only, without a key

nickytonline/dev-to-mcp only calls DEV's public endpoints: articles, users, tags, comments and search. There's no key to leak, and nothing it can publish.

Hosted publishing

Breakreach, Postiz and Upload-Post keep your DEV key and publish for you, at the time you set. Breakreach's differences: the AI label, which neither Postiz's Dev.to code nor Upload-Post's documented options send, and the social posts in the same request.

What Dev.to's API lets a server doThe rules every server works within.

  • An API key, no OAuthEach person generates a key in Settings, Extensions, under DEV Community API Keys. It acts as the whole account, with no scopes and no expiry, which is why every Dev.to MCP server asks for one.
  • PostingPOST /api/articles with the title, the Markdown body, a cover URL and up to 4 tags as an array, letters and digits only. There's no image upload for keys, so images must already be online.
  • AI disclosureai_disclosure_level takes no_ai, some_ai or fully_autonomous, and the article shows it. dev.to/llms.txt asks API clients to send it accurately; left out, the article shows Not Disclosed.
  • What the API can't doPost comments, which are read-only, delete an article, or upload media. Writes are limited to 1 a second per key.

What Breakreach's Dev.to tools doAnd what they don't, yet.

What you can ask for

  • ArticlesThe first line is the title, the rest Markdown, with ## headings and code blocks kept as you wrote them.
  • Cover, tags and the original addressThe first photo is the cover; up to 4 tags, cleaned to letters and digits; a canonical URL when the article first ran on your blog.
  • The AI label and draftsNo AI, AI-assisted or AI-written, set by you or the assistant. Or a draft left on Dev.to, to finish there.
  • StatsViews, reactions and comments per article, plus your followers count.

Not yet, or not possible

  • Videos, since Dev.to has no upload for apps
  • Organizations and series
  • Editing or deleting after publishing
  • Reading or answering comments

  • “How many views and reactions did my last three Dev.to articles get?”
FAQ

Questions, answered.

Short answers about Dev.to MCP servers.

No, as of October 8, 2026. DEV publishes an llms.txt with rules for automated clients and an OpenAPI description of its API, but no MCP server. Every Dev.to MCP server is third-party and runs on an API key.

Dev.to's API takes tags as an array, like ["python", "webdev"]. A comma-separated string, which developers.forem.com still documents, is dropped without an error. Tags must also be letters and digits only, 4 at most.

DEV asks API clients to send it accurately, and readers can choose to minimize AI-assisted articles in their feed or hide fully autonomous ones. DEV's guidelines for AI-assisted articles also rule out ones that promote a business, a program or a course, including your own.

A key acts as your whole account, so give one only to tools you trust, one key per tool, named after it. DEV allows 10 per account, and you revoke each one in Settings, Extensions.
