WordPress MCP servers in 2026.Which one depends on where your site lives.
WordPress.com runs its own MCP server, in Claude's directory and ChatGPT's, for its paid plans and for self-hosted sites on Jetpack AI or Complete. Self-hosted sites can install WordPress's official MCP Adapter plugin, which exposes the abilities plugins register, or use open-source servers that call the REST API with an application password. Breakreach's hosted connector publishes and schedules posts, alongside your social posts.

Northbeam Coffee
How we roast Morning Light
October 7, 2026
Eleven minutes from green bean to bag. We start low to dry the beans, push through first crack, then stop early to keep the honey and orange notes. That early stop is why it tastes lighter than our other coffees, and why it works as well in a latte as in a pour-over.

To post to WordPress from an assistant, use Breakreach. We built it, so here's the case.
Connect WordPress- The blog post and its social posts in one request, scheduled for the same morning
- Nothing to install on the site: type its address, approve Breakreach in wp-admin, done
- It publishes at the time from Breakreach's servers, so WP-Cron on a quiet site can't make it late
When to pick something else. Breakreach only publishes posts, without categories, tags, pages or comments, and reads nothing back. To run the site from Claude, editing pages, answering comments, managing plugins, WordPress.com's server or an open-source one does far more.
The kinds of WordPress MCP serverHow each one gets to your account.
WordPress.com's own server
One connection reaches every site on your WordPress.com account: posts, pages, media, comments, stats, plugins and more, within your role on each site. You turn it on in your WordPress.com preferences, writes ask for your confirmation, and new posts start as drafts. It covers paid plans, free sites for their first 30 days, and self-hosted sites connected through Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete.
The MCP Adapter, on your own site
WordPress's official plugin (1,801 GitHub stars, 40,000+ installs) turns the site's registered abilities into MCP tools, over WP-CLI or HTTP. Core 7.1 only registers read-only abilities, site and user info, so writing posts through it takes a plugin that adds those abilities. Automattic's earlier wordpress-mcp is archived and points here.
Open source, with an application password
InstaWP/mcp-wp and claudeus-wp-mcp run on your machine and call the REST API with an application password, the same credential Breakreach uses. They cover content, media, users and plugins, and you keep them running.
Hosted publishing
Breakreach and schedulers like Zernio, Postiz and Publer hold the application password and publish for you. Breakreach's difference is that the WordPress post sits in the same request as the social posts, from Claude or ChatGPT.
What WordPress's API lets a server doThe rules every server works within.
- Application passwordsBuilt in since WordPress 5.6, on HTTPS sites. A user approves an app on wp-admin/authorize-application.php, and the password acts with that user's whole role. Wordfence turns them off by default.
- PostingPOST /wp/v2/posts with title, block markup and status; media first through /wp/v2/media. Authors and above can publish; Contributors only write drafts.
- SchedulingA post dated at least 60 seconds ahead waits as Scheduled and goes live through WP-Cron, which runs when someone loads a page.
- WordPress.comFree WordPress.com sites have no REST API at their own address: their API goes through public-api.wordpress.com with OAuth2.
