Slack MCP servers in 2026.Slack runs its own, and it does a lot.
Slack has an official MCP server at mcp.slack.com, made by Slack: it searches, reads channels and threads, and sends or schedules messages as you, once a workspace admin approves the client. Open-source servers run with a bot token from your own Slack app, and a few borrow your browser session instead. Breakreach's hosted connector only posts, to one channel you pick, alongside your other networks.

Slack MCP servers compared
| How it connects | What it does | Within Slack's rules | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breakreach | Hosted. Breakreach's Slack app, posting to the channel you pick; OAuth from Claude's and ChatGPT's directories | Posts text and photos to that channel, scheduled; doesn't read Slack | Yes, An incoming webhook |
| Slack's MCP server | Hosted by Slack at mcp.slack.com. OAuth as you, for a client your workspace admin approves | Searches and reads channels and threads, sends, schedules and drafts messages, canvases, lists, files | Yes, Slack's own |
| Slack in ChatGPT | Built by OpenAI. Paid ChatGPT plans, one workspace at a time | Searches messages and threads; admins can turn on actions such as reminders and file uploads | Yes, OAuth |
| zencoderai/slack-mcp-server | Open source, runs on your machine. Your own Slack app's bot token | Lists channels, posts, replies in threads, reacts, reads history and users | Yes, A bot |
| korotovsky/slack-mcp-server | Open source. A bot or user token, or browser session tokens (its stealth mode) | Reads and searches channels, threads and DMs; posting is off until you turn it on | With bot or user tokens; the browser tokens aren't an API credential Slack documents |
| Other schedulers' MCP servers (Postiz, Zernio) | Hosted. Postiz in both directories; Zernio by URL | Channel posts among their other networks | Yes |
To post to Slack from an assistant, use Breakreach. We built it, so here's the case.
Connect Slack- The Slack post is one of several: the same request schedules the announcement on LinkedIn, X and the rest
- It posts as the Breakreach app, to one channel, and can't read your workspace
- Nothing to host and no Slack app of your own to create
When to pick something else. For anything inside Slack itself, such as searching, reading threads or sending as you, Slack's own MCP server does far more than Breakreach, which only posts. Slack's server needs your admin's approval; in Claude, Anthropic lists its Slack connector for Team and Enterprise plans.
The kinds of Slack MCP serverHow each one gets to your account.
Slack's own server, as you
Slack's MCP server, generally available since February 2026, signs in with OAuth as you and acts with your access: search, channel history, threads, messages, scheduled messages, canvases, lists and files. Each client app needs a workspace admin's approval, and Slack only lets Marketplace and internal apps be clients. Claude's Slack connector, made by Slack, uses it, and Slack documents setups for Claude Code, Cursor and Codex.
Your own Slack app, with a bot token
The reference Slack server from the MCP project, now archived and maintained by Zencoder as zencoderai/slack-mcp-server, and ubie-oss/slack-mcp-server run with a bot token (xoxb-) from an app you create and install in your workspace. It's within the rules, sees only what you grant it, and you host it.
Your browser session
korotovsky/slack-mcp-server, the most-starred one (1,860 stars on GitHub in October 2026), offers a stealth mode with the xoxc and xoxd tokens of your logged-in browser, and redhat-community-ai-tools/slack-mcp extracts tokens from a browser it drives. Slack's Developer Policy bans using unpublished APIs and circumventing Slack's access controls, so you take that risk on your workspace.
Posting only, hosted
Breakreach adds its Slack app with an incoming webhook: you pick the channel on Slack's page, and the assistant can post there, now or scheduled, as part of a post that also goes to your other networks.
What Slack's API lets a server doThe rules every server works within.
- Incoming webhooksOne URL per channel, picked by the person installing the app. A webhook posts as the app, answers ok without a message id, and its messages can't be edited or deleted through the API.
- Bot tokenschat.postMessage with chat:write posts about one message a second per channel, and chat.scheduleMessage schedules up to 120 days ahead.
- ReadingSince May 29, 2025, apps sold outside the Marketplace can read history at 1 request a minute and 15 messages a call, which is why most read-heavy tools go through Slack's own server.
- DataSlack's API terms forbid training a language model on Slack data, and activity through its MCP server shows in the audit logs.
What Breakreach's Slack tools doAnd what they don't, yet.
What you can ask for
- Text messagesIn the channel you picked, as the Breakreach app. Long text is split into blocks so it shows whole.
- PhotosUp to 10 JPG, PNG or GIF photos under the text; a video or a WebP image goes in as a link.
- SchedulingAt a time you give, or the next free slot of your posting schedule.
- The same post elsewhereOne request can post to Slack, LinkedIn, X and the rest, each with its own text.
Not yet, or not possible
- Reading, searching or summarizing Slack
- Threads, mentions and @channel
- Editing or deleting a message once it's posted

Yes. Slack's own connector sends messages as you. Breakreach posts as its app to one channel, scheduled, alongside your other networks.
It acts as you, with everything you can see, outside Slack's documented credentials. Slack's Developer Policy bans unpublished APIs and circumventing its access controls. Use Slack's server or a bot token instead.
No. It posts through an incoming webhook, which only sends to the channel you picked, and reads your workspace's name and icon.
