Automate Instagram DMs from ChatGPT or Claude.Describe the flow, the assistant builds it.

How do you connect ChatGPT or Claude to Instagram DMs?Once, in about two minutes.

In ChatGPT

Settings, then PluginsOn the web or the desktop app.

Ask for the automationIn plain words, with the details you care about.

Name the trigger, the message and anything special (followers only, a handoff, a code). The assistant fills in the rest: it finds the account, the post and the ids, and creates the automation with create_dm_automation or create_comment_dm_rule. Ask to see the flow before it goes live if you want to check it.

When someone DMs GUIDE, check if they follow us. Followers get the brew guide link. Others get asked to follow, with an “I followed” button that checks again.

The DM tools an assistant gets

Eleven of the server's 33 tools are about DMs: four for comment rules, four for DM automations, three for the inbox. Write tools are marked as such, and the two delete tools as destructive, so clients can ask before running them.

What can the assistant do with your DMs?Set up, check, answer, pause.

Create and edit automationsComment to DM, DM automations with keyword flows, story mentions and replies, ref links, welcome replies, with questions, waits, follow checks and handoffs.
Report on them“How many people got the guide this week?” reads each automation's stats and latest runs.
Answer DMsRead conversations and reply, within Meta's 24-hour window. A reply stops the automation for that person, as in the app.
Pause or delete“Pause the giveaway automation” sets it to off; deleting removes it with its history.

It can't do what Meta doesn't allow anyone to do: message people who never wrote, or keep writing after 24 hours of silence. The limits guide has the details.

Which other MCP servers handle Instagram DMs?A few, with different reach.
