X (Twitter) MCP servers in 2026.The official one doesn't post.
X runs an official hosted MCP server, but it doesn't create regular posts: its write tools are Articles and bookmarks. To post from Claude or ChatGPT you need a server on X's API, either one you run with your own developer app (paid per request since X moved to pay-per-use) or Breakreach's hosted connector. Servers that log in with your password or cookies use X's unofficial API.

Connect X- It posts regular X posts, which X's own MCP server doesn't
- No developer app and no X API bill: you sign in with X, and posting is part of the plan
- Replies and DMs from the chat, plus impressions, likes, replies and reposts for each post
When to pick something else. Threads of several posts and polls aren't supported yet. If you need them, xdevplatform/xmcp exposes every endpoint, with your own developer app and X's per-request pricing.
The kinds of X MCP serverHow each one gets to your account.
X's official servers
X hosts an MCP server at api.x.com/mcp. Per its documentation, the user-context writes are Articles and bookmarks; posting, replies, likes and DMs aren't in its tool list, and TechCrunch reported at launch that it isn't compatible with X's write endpoints. X's open-source xdevplatform/xmcp is different: it turns the whole X API into tools, posting included, and runs with your own app's keys.
Your own developer app
EnesCinr/twitter-mcp and similar servers post through X's API with keys from your own developer app. Since X moved to pay-per-use, every write is billed: creating a post costs $0.015 per request and a post with a link $0.20, per X's pricing page.
Official API, hosted
Breakreach holds the X app and the bill. You connect X once with X's own sign-in, then ask Claude or ChatGPT; scheduled posts publish from our servers with the chat closed.
Unofficial logins
adhikasp/mcp-twikit signs in with your username, email and password, and gkydev/twitter-mcp-server takes your session cookies (its README says it uses an unofficial API). Both run on X's internal API, which X can change or block at any time, and they hold credentials that control your whole account.
What X's API lets a server doThe rules every server works within.

Short answers about X MCP servers.
Yes, two. X hosts one at api.x.com/mcp that reads posts, users, search and trends and writes Articles and bookmarks, without regular posts. Its open-source xdevplatform/xmcp covers the whole API, posting included, with your own developer app.
With your own developer app, yes: X is pay-per-use, $0.015 per post created and $0.20 for a post with a link. With Breakreach, posting is part of the plan and X bills us.
xdevplatform/xmcp can, with your own app. Breakreach posts one post per request for now.
They run on X's unofficial internal API and hold your password or session cookies, which control your whole account. Servers on the official API use OAuth or app keys instead.
